"There is no duty which Christ and His Apostles more emphatically urged by both precept and example than that of prayer and supplication to Almighty God. The Fathers and Doctors in subsequent times have taught that this is a matter of such grave necessity, that if men neglect it they hope in vain for eternal salvation." (Pope Leo XIII)

"As our body cannot live without nourishment, so our soul cannot spiritually be kept alive without prayer." (St. Alphonsus Liguori, Doctor of the Church)

+ + +

Limitations & Notes

* For private use.

* This publication is geared towards laity and is not an official listing of prayers.

* Does not include daily information concerning feasts/holidays, Church seasons, obligations, indulgences, etc., and is best utilized in conjunction with a good, traditional Catholic calendar.

* Designed to be a handy devotional aid, and not a complete prayer reference. Although it covers many items, it is NOT a book of Catholic prayers for all occasions. Note that holiday/seasonal prayers do NOT include every feast/holiday/season.

* In order to keep the size manageable, this book has various limitations (e.g. possible omission/near omission of novenas, litanies, chaplets, hymns, long/very long prayers, etc.). This is a 'general prayer book' which is not specifically designed to accompany sacraments, sacramentals, Eucharistic adoration, holy hours, liturgies, secular holidays/events, or particular devotions (including Stations of the Cross), or to provide in-depth prayers for any given date/time/feast/event/occurrence/etc.

* Some items intentionally omitted (e.g. 'modern devotions' & 'modern practices') - including Pope John Paul II's (optional) 'luminous mysteries' and Faustina's 'Divine Mercy' prayers. If you want these items, you will instead prefer another publication.

* May contain varied wording (e.g. Holy Spirit/Holy Ghost, Thee/You, etc.).

* Does not contain Mass information & is primarily for use outside of Mass.

* Designed for use in the USA by Catholics of the Latin rite ("most Catholics in the U.S.A.").

* Latin prayers may omit special characters, accents, symbols, etc.

* Translations/wording may vary, and may not be scholarly or 'official' (and may be 'popular translations').

* Prayers may be of any length & may be excerpted from larger prayers.

* Not illustrated.

* This publication is 'Catholic-focused' and may be 'tradition-minded' (however, this does not preclude the possibility that some more 'modern' items, incl. scripture passages/references, translations, prayers, feasts, etc., may be included/referenced).

* Although this book is designed to be 'suitable for any year', we cannot guarantee its suitability for any given day(s)/year(s).

* Kindle version is NOT for use in church.

''For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified.'' (St. Paul, 1 Cor. 2:2)

''For Thy cross is the source of all blessings, cause of all the gifts of grace; through it to them that believe is given strength out of weakness, glory out of shame, life out of death.'' (Pope St. Leo the Great, Doctor of the Church, 5th Century A.D.)

''Besides these incomparable blessings, we have also received another of the highest importance; namely, that in the Passion alone we have the most illustrious example of the exercise of every virtue. For He so displayed patience, humility, exalted charity, meekness, obedience and unshaken firmness of soul, not only in suffering for justice' sake, but also in meeting death, that we may truly say on the day of His Passion alone, our Savior offered, in His own Person, a living exemplification of all the moral precepts inculcated during the entire time of His public ministry.'' "Some of the most consoling & comforting words from Holy Scripture, all in one place!"

+ + +

The Bible tells the greatest TRUE love story ever told and - along with imparting to us much knowledge & instruction - it can also bring great comfort. But the Bible is a very long work and there may be times when Catholics simply want to quickly reflect on some consoling, comforting, positive, or encouraging words from Scripture. On such occasions, we hope you will find this present book to be a wonderful aid.

This book may be particularly useful for:

* Providing consolation & comfort

* Strengthening & encouraging

* Providing a scriptural 'pick-me-up' / uplift

* Increasing hope

* Helping persons feel & trust that God loves and cares for them

* Increasing one's love of God - the greatest & first commandment (see Mt. 22:37-38)

Great for:

* Devotional reading

* Daily meditation

* Times of sadness, sorrow, grief, illness, trial or persecution - or any time

Designed for faithful Catholics, this publication includes:

* More than 700 selections, drawn from both the Old & New Testaments

* Dozens of scripture related reflections from popes & saints

* Links for additional resources

* List of Books of the Bible

You may be glad to know, this publication utilizes a traditional (English language) Catholic Scripture translation (Douay-Rheims), which is based on the Latin Vulgate Bible. The Vulgate is the only formally 'canonized' translation of Holy Scripture.

We hope you will find this pleasant & uplifting publication - which is 'filled with biblical comfort for faithful Catholics' - to be both encouraging & inspiring.

May God bless you now & always.

"The Holy Scripture or Bible is the collection of sacred, inspired writings through which God has made known to us many revealed truths. Some call them letters from Heaven to earth, that is, from God to man." (Baltimore Catechism)

"Learn the Heart of God in the words of God, that you may long more ardently for things eternal." (Pope St. Gregory the Great, Doctor of the Church)

+ + +

* NOT illustrated or indexed

* Excludes footnotes/explanatory text

* OT items may be limited to indicated books

* Items may appear in a somewhat 'randomized order'

* Selections may be partial/incomplete & may begin or end from any location

* Passages may be out of context / limited and may not 'stand alone'

* Scripture passage(s) may be broken up into multiple quote(s)

* May contain some duplicative items

* Source materials may capitalize words, even if not at the start of a sentence

"The ultimate reference for traditional Catholic names!"

When Catholics name themselves or their children after saints, they both ensure the saint's patronage & proclaim their faith. Naming oneself or a child after a saint also honors the saint & honors God. Changing of names is also symbolic of the biblical practice of name changes corresponding to important transformations in the lives of certain persons (e.g. Simon to Peter, Saul to Paul, etc.). This publication - "a treasury of saint names, patrons & feasts" - is designed to be a useful resource for Catholics who are starting (or who have already started) the wonderful & important journey of selecting a saint's name, either for themselves (e.g. Confirmation) or for their child (e.g. Baptism). It contains...

* Over 6,400 listings [including 4,500+ from a pre-1970 Roman Martyrology, 1,200+ patron saints, and hundreds of liturgical feasts (traditional & new)], containing about 2,000 distinct names total

* Variety of convenient lists [e.g. alphabetical, by male & female (about 88% of total records contain indicator for male or female), by date, by patronage, by patronage category]

* Easy navigation with A-Z and Jan.-Dec. links (e-book version)

* Prayer for choosing a name (for private use)

Designed for Catholics, this handy reference may be used as a springboard for:

* Naming children

* Baptismal names

* Confirmation names

* Choosing patron saints

Animal lovers may even get ideas for (respectfully) naming beloved pets.

Perfect for:

* Baby shower gifts

* Confirmation preparation

* Parish libraries

* Home reference library

You may be glad to know that, unlike some alternatives that focus on secular sources, this book relies on Catholic sources - including a pre-1970 Roman Martyrology & the General Roman Calendar. Also, unlike some alternative naming books which may make 'convoluted' steps to tie names to saints, this publication contains 'actual' saint names. And, since many saints can share the same name, this publication may offer multiple listings for applicable name(s), providing you more saints to choose from for any given name(s).

We hope that this book will be MUCH more to you than 'just a list of names', but rather that it will be a wonderful resource of saints that you can invoke & call on for help in your daily life.

We wish you God's abundant blessings & the saints' continual intercession.

Note: Please see below for more important information.

+ + +

Limitations & Notes

* Designed for Catholics.

* NOT illustrated.

* NOT an encyclopedia. Focused on saint names. Limited to only a few detail(s) to keep size manageable.

* Contains details from a pre-1970 Roman Martyrology index. NOT a full martyrology.

* Contains duplicate names/duplication - yet publication still contains about 2,000 distinct names.

* Names may be combined in groups. Some persons listed as others/companions, etc. Additional detail may be included (e.g. "ordination", "finding").

* Date ordered list contains non-name items (e.g. Crowned Martyrs, Epiphany) for a more comprehensive list.

* There may not be an entry for any given letter(s) or date(s). [Note: There is no listing for 2/29.]

* Some names may seem 'less suitable' in modern times. Also, some names may seem unusual (perhaps Bavo, Bean, Zeno) - yet these are actual saint names from the Roman Martyrology.

* Saints' names are not exclusively Christian (and may have non-Christian origins).

* May include individuals not formally canonized, blesseds, and 'unofficial' patrons.

* Does NOT include pronunciation, word origins/roots, meanings, alternate spellings/forms, translations, variations, etc. May exclude prefix 'St.'

* This is a tradition-minded publication, however names from sources other than the pre-1970 Roman Martyrology and traditional liturgical calendar may or may not be considered traditional (e.g. patron saints, new liturgical calendar). Some items may not be 'politically correct'.

* Originally based on our online database (last updated in 2011). No future updates are planned. Saints canonized more recently, added to the liturgical calendar more recently (e.g. after source materials were printed), made patrons more recently, or saints not included in the pre-1970 Roman Martyrology index may be excluded.

* Designed as a springboard - NOT an exclusive resource for selecting a name. We urge users to research name(s)/saint(s) in as many good, traditional publications as possible and we also suggest 'fact-checking' all important details before making significant decisions such as naming.

* All applicable items subject to change.

* We make no guarantees regarding any item.

See terms of use for other important information.

"The name of a saint is given in Baptism in order that the person baptized may imitate his virtues and have him for a protector." (Baltimore Catechism)

"The practice of adopting a new name was not limited to baptism. Many medieval examples show that any notable change of condition, especially in the spiritual order, was often accompanied by the reception of a new name." (Catholic Encyclopedia)

WHAT NO ONE'S EVER TOLD YOU ABOUT FAUSTINA'S DIVINE MERCY DEVOTION!

Is truth important to you?

How was a once forbidden devotion later allowed?

How much do you REALLY know about St. Faustina's Divine Mercy devotion?

Did you know that Faustina admits her body smelled like a corpse? Did you know her diary contains factual errors, contradictions, unfulfilled prophecies, and theological issues?

Did you know Faustina claims a crucifix came alive on her chest? And that Jesus' face on the curtain supposedly cried "large tears" onto her bedspread? That she supposedly has visions, hears voices, holds Jesus' hand and receives embraces from Jesus & Mary?

Were you aware that Faustina's version of Jesus supposedly sits in the chalice and runs and plays on the altar? That He supposedly calls Faustina a "sweet grape", "beloved pearl of My Heart", "the honor and glory of My Passion", and supposedly says that "the entire Holy Trinity finds Its special delight in you"? And that her version of Mary - who wears transparent(!) clothing - supposedly leaves the infant Jesus alone with Faustina and disappears?

Did you know Faustina has grandiose thoughts (e.g. "It seems to me that the whole world serves me and depends on me", "I felt that everything that existed was exclusively mine", "I also feel that God, absolutely self-sufficient though He is, cannot be happy without me"), admits to "often" speaking untruthfully ("I often represented myself to my superiors other than I was in reality and spoke of miseries of which I had no notion"), reproaches a saint, orders Jesus around, calls God a "Mother" and a "divine Madman"? And that Jesus supposedly 'dotes' on her, places her above all other virgins, promises her a "permanent income" and a "new world" to live in? Jesus supposedly tells her to inform her superiors about how great she is ("the most faithful daughter in the Order") and even leaves the Blessed Virgin's arms to approach Faustina. He allegedly unites Himself with no other soul "as closely" as He does with Faustina and has more "intimacy" with her than even the angels. She claims "all that exists" is hers, that the Lord's gaze rests upon her "before any other creature". Although her writings have a number of theological concerns, she claims to have "interior knowledge of God" and even claims to know "the entire essence of God."

Did you know Faustina has doubts about her alleged visions, has difficulty knowing whether something happened in a dream or in reality, is quite emotional and dramatic, claims she won't undergo judgment, claims the Blessed Virgin is in a "special and exclusive way" her Mother, says that "Jesus allowed me to penetrate His interior", and claims that Jesus literally(!) took her heart (so that she has no heart). And despite all the alleged heavenly encounters, Faustina considers her life to be "drab"!

Although Faustina's Divine Mercy devotion is very popular, it's clearly not without controversy, including the fact that it was initially forbidden, that it contains elements pleasing to modernists and Protestants, and that there is arguably a stark contrast between it and Fatima, not to mention Holy Scripture. Many follow Faustina's devotion nowadays without really knowing what's in it or what problems may exist.

Get this 'must-read' article today for startling facts & eye opening information concerning Faustina's Divine Mercy devotion. Whether you're new to this devotion or a long time devotee, you may be surprised at what's hidden in Faustina's diary.

IF YOU THINK TRUTH IS IMPORTANT, YOU NEED THIS PUBLICATION - NO MATTER WHICH SIDE OF THE ISLE YOU ARE ON.

Notes: Article contains about 500 relevant excerpts from her diary, plus references to other passages, but NOT the full diary or links to it. Based on a MyCatholicSource.com user-submitted article. Article is recommended only for those with good critical thinking skills. It is NOT recommended for gullible persons or those who may be too easily taken in by extraordinary claims.

"All in all, it is quite clear that much has been lost since the Second Vatican Council. It used to be that Catholics were united in belief and worship, they could go anywhere in the world and feel at home at Mass, prelates were orthodox, priests weren't afraid to talk about sin and hell and they didn't experiment with the liturgy, the Blessed Sacrament was treated with great reverence, our Blessed Mother was revered, Catholics obeyed the priests, bishops and the pope, teachers were orthodox, books with imprimaturs were 'safe', most Catholics knew and practiced their faith, lay persons didn't try to usurp priestly duties, dissenters were punished, the sense of sin was clear, people believed in the devil and knew that 'the whole world is under the power of the evil one' (1 Jn. 5:19), priests were available, Mass - a solemn sacrifice - was focused on God and was not an occasion for socializing, self-affirmation, or entertainment, Masses were reverent, not manipulated, and kneeling & genuflection for our Lord was required, parishioners were well-dressed, modest, and had manners, all was orderly and respectful, fear of the Lord was fostered and pleasing God was paramount, Catholics rejected Protestant errors, heresy was anathematized, churches were beautiful, tabernacles were prominent. A Catholic Mass was uplifting and was distinctly different from Protestant services. The Church was not worldly. She was known to be divine and not subject to change to suit the 'majority'." (Vatican II and its Fruits)

"I am convinced that the crisis in the Church that we are experiencing today is to a large extent due to the disintegration of the liturgy" (Cardinal Ratzinger, the future Pope Benedict XVI)

+ + +

"We went from having a liturgy that was rejected by heretics to one that heretics freely use; from one considered outstanding in beauty to one called 'banal'. We went from one that was holy, reverent, and universal to one that is often irreverent - even invalid - and divisive; from one that was controlled to one that is often 'out of control'. We went from enjoying the richest of fruits to suffering from many bitter fruits. Considering that the Mass is the 'heartbeat of the Church', it is clear that the 'health' of the Mass affects the Church at large. As our enemies have always known, 'It's the Mass that matters!'" (The Traditional Latin 'Tridentine' Mass vs. the New 'Novus Ordo' Mass)

Hate (false) ecumenism?

So much of the damage in the Catholic Church in the wake of the Second Vatican Council is due to false ecumenism, yet ecumenism is now supposed to "pervade all that [the Church] is and does." But is (false) ecumenism a good thing? If not, why not?

This publication - which attempts to provide some clarity for Catholics - contains a wealth of quotations from Scripture, Popes, Saints, Doctors of the Church, Councils, Catechisms, Canon Law, etc. pertaining to false ecumenism. It covers such topics as...

* What Is Ecumenism?

* The Church Has Always Disapproved Of False Ecumenism

* False Ecumenism Is Unbiblical

* Even Vatican II Admits Some Ecumenism Is Forbidden

* Popes & Saints Forbid False Ecumenism

* Some Problems With False Ecumenism

* 'True Ecumenism'

* False Ecumenism Is Flawed

* False Religions Are Not Vehicles Of Salvation

* 'Christians' Outside The Church Are NOT Part Of The Church

* Final Thoughts [Incl.: False Ecumenism Cannot Be Required Of Catholics; Bad Fruits Of False Ecumenism; Rejecting False Ecumenism Does NOT Go Against 'The Vatican Council'; Etc.]

Also included are a number of special bonuses, such as...

* Setting The Record Straight About Luther

* Is The Catholic Church The Only True Church?

* The Importance Of Being Catholic

* Selected Reflections

* Can Dogmas Change?

* And More...

We sincerely hope this important tradition-minded book - which is presented by faithful Catholics who are *NOT* involved in 'irregular' or sedevacantist groups - will prove helpful to those who genuinely care about truth.

Limitations & Notes

* Publication may be based on online versions of MyCatholicSource.com articles as they appeared at a point in time. Various items may differ from originals.

* This book is NOT intended to be a comprehensive resource of 'all things ecumenism', but rather is designed (generally) to consider false ecumenism from a 'higher level', or a more 'philosophical', perspective making particular use of traditional & scriptural teachings. [Note: For ecumenical changes to the Church or Mass, try our other titles indicated above.]

* Contains "a wealth of pre-Vatican II quotations."

* This publication is 'Catholic-focused' and 'tradition-minded, however we have used a modern Catholic bible translation for various Scripture quotes.

* Some material (e.g. material concerning Luther and his offensive doctrines & behaviors) may not be appropriate for children or for persons who are not well catechized.

* Certain persons may have some difficulty understanding the ("amazing!") 'figuratively speaking' article, which requires adequate comprehension.

* NOT illustrated or indexed. (Technically, there is one image.)

* May contain some duplicative material [e.g. same/similar quote(s) appearing in different articles].

See terms of use for other important information.
